These plates are called Niger Coils. Niger is a little known African country at the bottom edge of the Sahara desert. The coil platters are completely flat and tightly woven.They are used to cover water jars or cooking pots but also look wonderful on the wall. There is a choice of the complex design in browns and black or also browns, black and turquoise.

The platter on the left is the Large Niger Coil. This one is the largest coil we have and comes only in natural colors. Black is used to accentuate the design which is much simpler than the smaller coils. The long oval basket is called a Gambella. They are from Ethiopia and are great for holding bread, crackers and cheese.
